Comments

I agree with Enny that the final scene was the best part of the article. What I enjoyed about it was the feeling that I was Orleans sneaking through the backyard and caught a glimpse of the tiger's eyes. I've noticed after reading a couple of Orlean articles, that Orlean likes to always start with an introduction about her subject or event. She never really starts out with a scene but as her article progresses, the more scenes are put into it. I love Orlean for writing articles on weird subjects and somehow making them understandable to the readers. I felt I knew the most intimate part of the lady's life in this article.

Love the list of books; many of them are the ones I keep meaning to read.

I have a narrative non-fiction site which I would be grateful if you'd visit and possibly even contribute to. It's called Un-Made-Up, at www.unmadeup.com. The idea is to experiment with all forms of modern non-fiction story telling...

Contributors are a mixture of professionals and non-professionals... but everyone is welcome.
